Lombok : Island of 1000 mosque

Lombok is also known as Island of 1000 mosque. Is the number representing the exact figure or is it just a nick name featuring its uniqueness? Well, let’s leave the answer of the first question to the statistic. The nick name describes the numerous of mosque standing majestic throughout Lombok island. It is no wonder because such scenery, compared to other island, are common here. This Islamic worship building is available in many locations across the island. Mosque and minarets and cupola make up a huge part of Lombok impressive landscape. The sound of adzan (The call to prayer) can be heard throughout Lombok. So while on sightseeing trip, travelers can find easily the mosque to pray (shalat) or to just take a rest seeing the mosque architecture.
Despite it is number; all mosques are also big in size. They can accommodate many people. For me

it raised questions concerning of how long does the construction take place and how is it funded. Teddy , a local friend, told me the story of mosque construction in his kampong, around Bertais area. In his recall the mosque is built gradually due to fund owned by mosque administrator. Fund is raised among others through community self-help. Also people of neighborhood kampong usually participated in performing the construction voluntarily. So the mosque plays the role not only as a religion monument but also represents the value of unity among people, their hard work, their patience and endurance. In Mataram city at Udayana Street, there is standing Islamic center or Masjid Raya Hubbul Wathan Islamic Center NTB. It is modern architecture designed with the combination of Sasak classic motive. The mosque has been equipped with elevator and escalator. So it is not to bother anymore to up and down stairs. One most favorite place is Tower 99.  The name refers to tower height of 99 meters. From here we can see the beautiful city of Lombok from the top of the Mosque Tower.Today, the combination of its beautiful white sand beach and the Islamic values, Lombok become the centre of an Islamic tourism drive in Indonesia and is hoping to boost the number of visitors from Middle Eastern countries. To visit here and other religious site, visitors were told not to wear skimpy or revealing clothing. Dress appropriately – wearing appropriate clothing, legs and shoulder fully covered,
